Fun In D Son

It’s Easter again and everyone is heading to a beach, some retreat, has special events like family reunions, concerts etc. But nothing beats some good old Kite flying. The sun is out, the breeze whistles in the distance and takes the smell of BBQ to your nostrils, the sky is lined with kites and the giggles of children can be heard about, as mommys talk about suprising things their kids have done over the year and daddys take a sweat. This is very much the scenery that would be seen come Saturday in Fun in the Son. Coordinator of the event Ancil Bain, expresses his desire for variety in events in Trinidad and Tobago, as I pick his thoughts and I attempt to capture his purpose of having it.

Gospel Globe: What is the purpose of Fun In D Son?

The purpose of Fun in the Son is to fill the void that exist at Easter time in Arima as it pertains to Open Gospel Events and to create a space for fun for everyone that wishes to be a part. This would also be the an annual event that would getter bigger and bigger and better!

Gospel Globe: How did the idea come about for having this kind of event?

I have a heart for young people and one day whilst doing a little analysis of the basic events for our Christian young people I realized that sporting and Outdoor Physical events are limited for them. Even if there are events, its usually specified to churches or denominations. So I came up with this event and open the invitation to any and everyone

Arnold Grant aka (Dj Body Roc), Carissa Auguste-Bain (My Wife), Moselle Alvarez and Pashun Augustus ( Mo-Pashun), and Myself

Gospel Globe: Who is the event targeted toward?

ANY person longing for a fun time for the Glorious Saturday, and I mean ANY person!

Gospel Globe: What kinds of activities are involved and what makes it different from others?

Activities included are 3 legged race, lime and spoon race, needle and thread race and other novelty events, football and kite flying. What makes this event different is that we are bringing a mixture of live music mixing it with sport, fun and catering for all ages all at once. It’s the first ever like it in Arima

Gospel Globe: What are your thoughts on Gospel events in Trinidad and Tobago?

My thoughts are that there are not enough, and those that occur are very predictable and limited. We also need to focus on more national events involving all Christian and more young people. On the other side of things, Gospel events in Trinidad & Tobago are poorly attended and we need to gather from the Christian public where we are probably going wrong rather than just repeating the same thing every year expecting different results

Gospel Globe: Where and when will the event be?

The event would be at Rose Park Arima ( Behind the Arima Veldrome) near B’s Ice-cream in Arima on Saturday 23rd April, 2011 (Glorious Saturday) from 10 am -515pm

Gospel Globe: Will there be any entertainment?

Entertainment? Could Christian people use that word?, lol seriously YES. You would be ministered onto and you would be entertained. To assist us with this would be JADEE, J SQUARE & HTE, DAVID MATAS, REYNARD RAWLINS, CAMILLE MC CLEOD, SHERMAINE JOHN, ELISHA, GEN-EX, JAMES SAUNDERS, AND YOURS TRULY

Gospel Globe: Inform me as to what you do in the Gospel Arena….

I am a radio announcer and host of a Youth Oriented Gospel Show (not a program) called Praise Inferno Sundays and the founder of Praise Inferno Events, an Event company focusing on Gospel events for young people between the ages of 0 - 35 and I am also a Music Minister.

Gospel Globe: What kinds of impact to you hope to make in Trinidad and Tobago through your sphere of influence?

Well Esther I’m going to touch on a few that are close to my heart. To change the way we approach our music as Gospel Ministers i.e. recording, distribution. Marketing etc., be a people of excellence. Regaining respect for our music as local ministers and to show what can be accomplished if we spend more time in the community outside of the Church and encourage more of this to take place
