Holy Ghost Party at Upper Room

At the end of this party I was like BOOM! But to understand how I got to that point one must go back to the very beginning.

On a somewhat chilly Divali night, the stage was set for a true Holy Ghost experience in aid of upgrading the Upper Room Entertainment Center. The effort to dispel the misconception that Trini’s always late did not work out; one could say it backfired. But the evangelical pied piper elect DJ Livstrong started dropping hit after hit drawing the crowd from the four corners. What was few turned into many and we had a party on our hands.

Adanna Grant-Mc Millan graced the stage on the hour and hyped the crowd in a night that featured seasoned and a few new ministers such as Konata, Que, Morrece Marshall , Jah Kiley, Zion Yute, Silent Sah, Kendall Jack Lyndon ‘Tiko’ Sterling, Antus, Koen Duncan, Jadee, Kwesi Fontinelle, Keron Ramsey, Rich and J Prince….wow that was a mouth full.

MCs for the night including Adanna, were Tiko and J Square, who had all the new hip hop ministers free style on a beat after they did their original selections, a challenge each stood up to like David facing Goliath, never flinching. Undaunted, Square turned to the crowd for his next free style challenge and ‘fellas’ from the photographers (not Maurice), to ‘Upper Room Junior’ hit the stage and laid off lyrics that would have made Shiselon proud…

When Tiko took the mike, I nearly screamed like a fan. Don’t judge me I’ve never heard him live before…..I’m a big fan let it go. Moving swiftly along, Tiko sang a capella on the mic walking through each of his songs stopping only to clear up the different football analogies he used such as “Left back like Paulo Maldini”... get it? Don’t feel bad, most didn’t either. He did however go into his ‘coaching’ mode and shared knowledge to the benefit of both the crowd and the ministers present.

Tiko also set the bar, as each artist followed suit and took time to lay out their songs a capella style before diving into the beat. By the time Isaac Blackman, Koen, Kieron Ramsey and Jadee hit the stage, the crowd was still all hype and full of energy despite the late start.

J Prince (adorned in military wear) was the last to the stage and reminded us that indeed, “It is a long long journey but ah trodding it”, a timely message for most to remember. But what would a J Prince performance so close to Christmas be without “Country Christmas”. Wonderful simply wonderful…..battle boots and all.

Party Postmortem

Lighting and presentation – Lights provided by Sound Vision was awesome and the sound setup done by Orin Orun was near flawless (at one point I checked to see if the speakers were wireless)

Atmosphere of the crowd – Apprehensive at first but once the party got going everyone threw off their initial doubt

The content by the artists – Large up for the young and upcoming ministers of the gospel keep on pressing. Everyone on the night was excellent showing sound biblical knowledge in their messages.

Food – whoever did the aloo pie deserves an award, though I would request it to be bigger next time around…Christ Child mentioned something about chips and fries earlier on but all we got was chicken and chips (sorry bro you know I couldn’t have let that one go)

The plan for Upper Room – to turn it into a state of the art entertainment center we’re talking big screen tv’s Ps3, WII, Karaoke more aloo pies. Remember folks to sow a seed toward the Upper Room; it’s for everyone.

Points to note; Koen announced that his pre launch for his new album will take place on the 1/1/11 at 1am, venue to be announced. Also look out for Jah Kiley’s album next year as well.
