In God's Hands - Still Trusting

Caden Edwards is a five year old with a charming smile, a twinkle in his eyes, curiosity in his stare and love in every look he gives.  However unlike other five year olds who could run in a savannah, put on his shoes and embrace his mother for giving him his favorite snack, Caden cannot do that. You see, Caden has Cerebral Palsy.

Cerebral Palsy by definition is a disorder that affects muscle tone, movement, and motor skills (the ability to move in a coordinated and purposeful way). Cerebral palsy can also lead to other health issues, including vision, hearing, and speech problems, and learning disabilities.

CP is usually caused by brain damage that occurs before or during a child's birth, or during the first 3 to 5 years of a child's life. There is no cure for CP, but treatment, therapy, special equipment, and, in some cases, surgery can help a child who is living with the condition.

Caden’s parents Denzyl  and Candice Edwards however are doing everything within their power to give him the best life he can have. Treatments usually include different types of rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, which serve to help Caden achieve independence.

The Edwards are currently seeking therapeutic services for him abroad at the Ability Camp in Ontario, Canada. This camp offers five weeks of intensive therapy and Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy. Caden attended the camp in October 2008, and at the end of the period he was able to hold up his head, and also have better torso control; something he was unable to do before.  It is from this initial success that they are trying to get him back to the camp for further therapy so that he would progress even further towards his independence.

The couple has therefore decide to have a benefit concert to raise funds for treatment as well as raise awareness of the many families that are faced with the challenge of raising a child with the disability.

Though many state that there may be no cure for the disorder the benefit has a name that is quite befitting. Resting In God’s Hands- Still Trusting will be held on the 15th May 2011, 5pm, at Queens Hall.  The event will feature premier local Gospel and inspirational artistes such as Russell Leonce, Rizon, Positive, Curtis Jordon, Lletesha Sylvester, Nisa Nora, Nadine Isaac, Marcus Hypolite & Intentions and many more. Tickets can be purchased at College Health Foods Curepe, Arima, Adventist Book Center, Dean St. and Christian Education Center, Trincity Mall. For more info on tickets you can call 868-702-5375 or 868-491-7260 or 868-750-0018.

With an event named like that and having met the parents I am persuaded that God will move on their behalf. Let this occasion be one that increases our faith and causes us to rely on God and know that God is our Rapha (Healer). Rest in His hands and just trust HIM.
