Fatal Distractions

It took me quite some time to finish.., but I did!

Fatal Distractions is a book I would put into the words of ‘One that all Christian women’ need to read!’ (Men too oaky!)

Joyce L Rodgers brought to life various scenarios used in the book, drawing from a stance of relativity, truth and necessity for the times we dwell in. Know the saying ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’? That’s the feeling you get as you explore the first two chapters of the book. Regardless of your spiritual depth, intellectual height, or broadness of shoulders due to life’s challenges, reading it is essential for reminding us women in the body, how we must see our God, ourselves, each other and everyone else in our lives.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Name: Fatal Distractions

Author: Joyce L Rodgers

Copyright year: 2003

ISBN: 7-59185-225-0

The cover I must admit is far from attractive as I like bold, bright and brilliant hues. The dark cover makes you wonder though what kind of content could it hold with a name like ‘Fatal Distractions’? Below the unique title also were the words ‘Uncover the roadblocks that keep you from fulfilling your destiny’. With the fact that I was going through another transition in my life, I decided ‘What the hey.., I’ll read it anyway.’

The book as I can best sum up, takes one on a journey of the circumstances or obstacles we may face and the decisions that we should take to avoid retribution. It’s a book that causes you to do constant self evaluation and challenges you to live up to the Word of God.

She says in her book, ‘Women need a fresh touch from God and a new attitude of determination that God’s plan will not be thwarted in their lives’. I agree! So many of us have experienced torment, setbacks and disparage of all kinds that it can leave us in a desolate place. The book explores her experiences and encourages that you’re not alone and you too can overcome and be a conqueror.

The content flow was beautiful as it took you through the book by means of two general sections;

1. Non-Fatal and

2. 8 Fatal Distractions.

Within the first section, she highlighted many bible characters to portray the situations that they faced, and how they entered into victory and breakthrough. To name a few who were mentioned were Martha, Adam and Eve, Leah, the woman with the issue of blood, Ruth, Naomi, Abigail and Hannah. All of which experienced rejection, heartache, barrenness, loneliness and what seemed to be insurmountable disappointment.

In the second chapter she expounded on the distractions of envy and jealousy, loneliness, anger, bitterness, hurt and brokenness, fear, rejection and your biggest distraction…YOU! This for me was the section that made me look into my mannerism to difficulties and solidified my belief that I too could overcome by being better not bitter.

As you turn the pages, lessons are learnt, your mind and heart become more receptive to the leading of the Holy Ghost, and you feel a sense of release. Everyone at one time or the other needs to be reminded that these ‘little foxes’ in our lives can indeed spoil our being fruitful and being in prosperous mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

No matter your walk, your level in God, your ministry or personal beliefs, the book combined with the word of God causes revelatory truths to ignite and burn away self and become captive to the plans of God.

Below are some videos of her preaching the message ‘God’s Got Your Back’. Hope that you are encouraged to get the book and listen to this mighty woman of God.
