So Many Causes

Avonelle Hector-Joseph of Is There Not a Cause

Gospel Globe caught up with Avonelle Hector-Joseph after Cause Fest, which was a one day fair for christian organisations involved in Community Transformation, with beautiful Gospel Music to complete the picture.

Following is a transcript of the interview.

(GG) How was today’s event?

(Avonelle - ITNAC) I would say that today was great in terms of how things went on schedule. Of course we would have liked to see more people, but I believe that those who came, their hearts were touched, And we believe in God for a number of things.

Firstly for there to be a networking among as many of the different groups that are involved in local, regional, international projects. So we can know each other, and have relationship, pray together and really support each other. Let’s not compete against each other, but let’s work together.

[To] those who came, we would like them to remember these groups, and let the Lord guide them in terms of partnership and sponsorship.

I believe we're going to do it again, so look out for "Cause Fest East" and "Cause Fest South".

There are a lot of people doing a lot of great things for God right here in Trinidad [and] touching the globe.

(GG) I heard you say earlier that you're going to Kenya

(Avonelle - ITNAC) In august, with the children.

(GG) So what other projects do you have coming up?

Well on the 11th of June, our youth are doing “Walk for the Cause”. That's one lap around the savannah. I'm hoping to raise about 30,000 towards our Kenya trip and different things that we want to go and do there.

There's a food shortage in Kenya and we might not be able to send a container, but we want to take money to buy some there.

We just landed a container in Haiti another one is [going] in June. At the end of the year we're back to Haiti and then to Jamaica.

God forbid, if there is any disaster anywhere, we'll be there on the spot with disaster response work.

(GG) Is There Not A Cause has an unofficial Disaster response team now?

(Avonelle - ITNAC) You know what happened? Is There Not a Cause, I don’t think we planned to be disaster response, but over the years, that’s just how the Lord [led]. We don't start it. Most of the other disasters except I think the earthquake in Italy and one or two other things we've been there. We've been to Katrina, the Tsunami, and Hurricane Ivan, to bring hope.

(GG) How is the Medianet Haiti Relief Fund going?

(Avonelle - ITNAC) That is going good. it has taken us out of our original base which is the christian community to ... people who didn't know what we were doing, and they're like, we want to be a part of this, so we thank God for that.

(GG) One of Israel’s song on his latest album asked “What if my only responsibility was to change the world”. What is your take?

(Avonelle - ITNAC) My friends are very sarcastic and [ask] do you feel you can change the world? I want to change my world. If I accomplish that, when it's time to go, I can just show God some teeth and call it a day.
