Mixtape Review: J Prince – OMEGA: A new beginning

The Artistry:

The albums features a wide variety vocals from Keron Ramsey to Jah Kiley.  Each bringing their unique style and flavor to the album, while skillfully contributing to the message of the album (the first track is an example). The mixtape  features favorites like “Victory” and hits-in-the-making like “Push it” and “Ready to go”. The album seems to be well thought out I say this because the lyrcis have just the right mix of the theology and reality for the target audience (IMO).

The Production:

Solid production from start to finish, the producers of the album (J Prince, G-Master and DJ Frost) are definitely in tune to what's going on in the industry today, and have worked hard to craft the dancehall sound that has grabbed the attention of many; and that's a good thing considering what the album is about.  The sound of the album definitely expresses the versatility of the producer as the sounds range from the soundtrack from Junior Gong's “More Justice” to the energy filled Ready to Go (which sounds like it could be a Nicki Minaj track).

The message:

This album is definitely not your doctrine-packed Lampmode album, but it will get the listeners to take a second listen and think about what is being said and some may even be challenged to read the verses being quoted. One of lines that stood out to me is “It's a new year, It;s a new beginning, so the things I used to do I will do them no more”. This line right here challenged me to look back at last year, leave it behind and press forward to bigger and better things this year.

And I think that's the gist of the album, don't get stuck in the past, unlike those who have passed on, you have a chance to turn things around in Jesus Christ.

My recommended course of action:

If you own any form of public transportation and have a heart for the youth who find themselves in “ghetto life”...GET THIS ALBUM!!! In my opinion it's perhaps one of the best alternatives to trash like Movado, Vybez Kartel and those guys. I see it as an evangelism tool, but also a source of encouragement for young believers.
