DJ Livstrong Releases August 2010 Mixtape

"I got robbed and smiled."

It was a simple answer when asked what the motivation behind the mix of this month's mixtape by Andre "DJ Livstrong" Charles.

In early July, DJ Livstrong was robbed, and his laptop taken. it contained a complete July mixtape, and no doubt countless other memories, documents etc.

"When I was faced with the issue the opportunity to drop down and accept defeat was definitely possible. Thanks be to Jesus that the spirit of God helped me apply the principles from the text to overcome and move on." his blog post on the issue said.

"Through it all I learn’t how to apply the scriptures to actual living more and more."

This was motivation enough for his choice of music for the August mixtape download.

How does it start? Keron Ramsey's latest track entitled "Smile". The answer reminds me of his initial answer to the motivation behind this mixtape.

Interludes
A usual feature of DJ Livstrong's mixtapes are his interludes where he takes the opportunity to minister in his own words to his growing list of avid listeners.

In the first interlude he reflects on James' admonition to "count it all joy".

James 1:2-4 (KJV)  My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;  (3)  Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.  (4)  But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

In the final track on the mixtape, he says "To suffer is to conquer".

One can feel his passion in listening to this interlude. This final interlude did not feature the usual background music, and moved through more than one poem that magnifies the point.
