This week, you may notice some drastic changes to the format of the Perfect 10 as you know it on I95.5fm. Reliable sources at I95.5 FM have confirmed that the ten hour segment of gospel music that we’re accustomed is no more.
Now this doesn’t mean that there won’t be gospel radio on I95.5fm, but there won’t be the 10 hours of programming as before.
Reliable sources say that only a few members of the team are being retained and will continue to play gospel music between 8pm and 12am. After this, there will be an automated selection of music.
Even the type of music may change, possibly playing a larger amount of traditional gospel songs.
Similar moves are being made throughout society with the worldwide economic downturn having effects on all industries. Media is not immune.
The number of staff members in other media houses has also begun to thin out. Most noticeably, Gayelle TV recently shut down their news room to broadcast news from another television station.
What’s next for the announcers? Most of them have other jobs, and a lot going for them career wise. Fortunately, they’re all very marketable, and skilful in a variety of ways. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pray for them though.
Prayerful support is always necessary.
Perfect 10 listeners shouldn’t worry though. The last time significant amounts of gospel programming on a secular station was cut, we ended up with a fully owned Christian radio station – I.S.A.A.C. 98.1FM.
According to Junior Lett, Programme Coordinator for Perfect 10, this by no means indicates the death of P10, as it is amicably called.
“We still plan as a team to … still have the Perfect 10 as a brand. We’ll still have the family day etc. We still will maintain the product.” Lett said in a brief telephone interview.
As testament to this, Let Loose, their relaxation and Gospel music showcase will be held on Thursday 18th June, in Arima. (Click for more information).
As we see it in Gospel Globe, we have a great chance to have our say. Perhaps after having a great amount of public outcry and discussion, we may see Perfect 10 appear – perhaps in a different place.
