The Church’s Football League

alt

The Churches Football League was started in 1975 as the ‘Gospel Football League’ as a means to have footballers who were getting saved to have an avenue to fellowship with other Christian footballers. This idea came to Pastor Trevor Campbell and Victor Mc Gill and a couple other men who were turly visionaries in their own right when they took notice of the lack of activities for Christians outside of the church setting. Christian footballers who were playing in national leagues wanted a chance for friendly competition between other churches.

The league started with as little three teams and grew throughout the years, at one time having as much as 24 teams in one year. Currently the league has twenty teams with an increase of four in 2009. The Church’s Football League is formatted to have three competitions; a league, Big four and a Knock-Out, with subdivisions of a Premier and First Division. Teams play for fellowship, exercise, trophies, medals, vouchers and bragging rights for a year.

The Premier Division consists of:

Ten teams

The Crème-de-la-crème from the previous year.

Teams in this division can be demoted to the first division.

The First Division consists of:

The other teams, totaling the amount of teams in the league for that year.

These teams have an opportunity to move up to the premiere division.

The top four teams in each of the divisions would play in the Big Four tournament finals and to seal the teams within the premier league for the next year.

The Knockout Competition

This is the last of the Church’s football competition in the league; this match is the grand finale of the teams that are most definitely the best.

The Big Four

Is a mini league which takes a winner take all format teams from each group (premier and first) playing home and away matches. The losing team is out of the competition. First and second place from both premier groups play each other once. There is a points system in effect 3 points are needed for a win, 1 point for a draw and a loss is zero points.
