UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL with Bryant Henry

By definition, mime is the technique or art of portraying a character, mood, idea, or narration by gestures and bodily movements. Usually when one thinks of a mime in the secular world you think of one in a black and white striped shirt, with a beret on, living in France and does nonsensical gestures, however for the purpose of ministry, it takes a different turn. The art form has been adopted into the churches and has grown significantly. One Caribbean young man has made serious change in the lives of many by simply being the clay and having God as his potter. Over the years he has been sharpened and molded for such as time as this, to touch souls for Christ in this unique way of mime while spreading the Gospel radically. Bryant Arnold Henry has been miming for six years and dancing for twelve, and considers this as his form of worship. He defines worship as ‘The heart of man connecting to the heart of God in the purest form possible’.

He has worked with some of Trinidad’s best such as Mellisa Precious Brouwn, Shiselon, Sherwin Gardner,GMP, Christina Balbosa, Mr. Lynx (of Bahamas), Diana Downes, Darryl Gervais, Keron Ramsey, Ancil Valley, Winsie-Ann Cuffie, San Fernando Open Bible, Tasman Sutherland (MasterMime Bahamas).

While speaking with him, I got to understand more about what he does and how he’d like to share it in an event called ‘Up Close and Personal with Bryant Henry’, that will be happening this Friday.

When asked about why have this event now, he replied, ‘I believe that people need to know who their Gospel Ministers are and why we do what we do. What’s the motivation behind it, what’s the inspiration behind it? Is it just for fame, is it just for self glory, for pride, or just so that we can look good? The event would give a bit of exposure to the heart of the minister.’

Many have seen over the years the impact of his ministry with others and it has caused many to think, ponder and seek change in their lives. Even for himself he described the ministry as that of Paul where he wasn’t called by man but of God.

‘I felt like God ordained my ministry and it wasn’t just someone saying, ‘Aye boi you could really dance.’ I had a very personal experience at home where I had God speaking to me clearly in my house where He wanted me to go and build a ministry of hope, deliverance and healing through the power of dance.’, he shared.

‘Up Close and Personal’ is a monthly event that seeks to bring you closer with some of our Gospel ministers. He hopes that on this night he can remove some of the glare of who one may think their Gospel ministers are. He would like to show that they encounter real situations and experiences, and that they are common just as any man.

The event will be held at Upper Room Entertainment Center on Lower Cipero Street in San Fernando from 8pm. It will go on from 8pm to 9:30pm and from there will be a time of questions from the audience. This cost for the event at the door is $30.00.

‘It’s a night of ministry that will reveal what God has placed inside of me and I believe that whatever God has placed in you it’s of worth to be shared’
